Flowers can be seen virtually everywhere in anticipation of Tet. Beautiful flower markets have been setup from the countryside to the city.
Some flower traders are earning a lot of money while others are suffering financial losses.
Ho Thuong from An Dong Ward, Hue City, has sold only 50 flowerpots among his 1,000.

Nguyen Van Tien from Phu Mau, Phu Vang, says that there are very few customers during the day but there are many in the evening. However, a lot of people just came to watch and take pictures, not to buy.
Flower traders this year are much more worried than usual because of the unexpected weather changes.
Beautiful daisies but no buyers
Flower markets in Dak Nong are in the same boat. Apricot blossoms are in bloom and have fallen all over the ground.
Nguyen Van Vuong has only managed to sell 6 pots in 15 days.
Phan Van Vinh from Binh Dinh said, “People just came to ask the price. I have 150 daisy pots in total but haven’t sold any yet.”
Some customers are buying wild orchids
In contrast, orchid traders have had very good business this year. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, said that many customers tend to buy wild orchids because they look special and have reasonable prices, ranging from VND50-250 ($2.7-13.5) per pot. She has 250 pots but still not enough to sell.
Tet spirit has spread into flower markets in Da Nang. A spring flower affairs is organised at September 2nd Square by the People’s Committee of Da Nang. All kinds of stunning flowers from all over the country are gathered, attracting many people to buy and enjoy.

Due to the economic difficulties facing many people, they are renting yellow mai trees instead of buying. Many people here said that with limited incomes this year, they cannot afford to buy yellow mai trees pots so they decided to rent them during Tet with at a cheaper price.

Apricot blossoms traders said it’s the way they want to “share difficulties” with people however they also can take some opportunity to persuade people to buy. The rental price is 20% cheaper than selling one.
