This forum has been created where members can post topics that may be of a more personal nature. It is only visible to registered members, so it can't be seen by anyone who's just casually browsing the forums, and it can't be indexed by search engines.
There's no set rule to define what a personal post is. A few examples are things like real-life details of members, such as real names or photos of members. You may also want to ask advice on a serious or personal issue, maybe you're having some problems at school.
Most discussion topics will still belong in the general discussion forum. Asking for advice on what sort of computer to buy does not belong here! In addition, most debates won't belong here either, even if the subject is serious. Remember that you can always request a topic be moved from General Discussion into here by a moderator. The purpose of this forum is to provide some privacy for members, not as a cool secret discussion forum.
As with all other sections of LP, please be considerate of other members' issues that they may post. Everyone copes with their problems differently, so what one may think isn't such a big deal might be quite serious to someone else. If you believe that a certain situation isn't serious enough to ask for advice or is something that wouldn't really bother you if you were in that person's shoes, the best thing is just not to post anything if you don't have advice to give. It may only result in hurt feelings or an argument if a person's current problem is made light of.
Another issue to be addressed is topics with sexual content, which may appear. In this forum, topics of such nature are allowed, yet the topic must remain non-explicit and be labeled as mature. Even with the mature tags, sexual discussions must be kept under control because LPU is a LPer message board and attracts a couple of young members. This forum cannot used as an excuse to post random topics about sex.
Finally, please keep in mind that while this forum provides some measure of privacy to members, it is only a small level. Registration is open to everyone, and so anyone can sign up and gain access here immediately. You should never post personal information about yourself on the Internet that could come back to bite you, such as your address or credit card number, even if you trust all of the active members on LP. It might just take that one lurker who has an account, but 0 posts and just likes to read in here. No-one will think any less of you if you don't even want to post your picture. It is far better to be safe than sorry.
